LJYB 2017 Opening Day Information Guide

Opening Day is this Saturday, February 25th.  This is the single busiest day of the year for La Jolla Youth Baseball families.  To help you navigate the day we are providing this information guide which list everything you need to know about the big day!  Everything you need to know is also posted on our website so check it for up to the minute information including the latest scores and home runs.

Game Schedule: The best place to see what team is playing where and when is the Master Calendar.  The Master calendar lists all the games for each week along with any special events so scroll to the bottom of the page to see a list of this weekend’s games.

Parking: Parking in La Jolla is always difficult and opening day is no different.  Your best bet is the YMCA parking lot.  You are allowed to park there.  Other good spots are Torrey Pines elementary parking lot, along Cliffridge Avenue and along Via Posada Avenue for those going to Pinto and Mustang games.  Check out our Field Map for a satellite view of the fields and surrounding area.  If you are running late dropping off your baseball player at the Cliffridge circle by the Pony field is a good option. Please do not block driveways or park in areas marked "No Parking" as cars will be towed.

Individual and Team Pictures: All 36 teams in LJYB will have team and individual pictures taken on Opening Day.  The photo schedule for your team is located HERE.  The “League Package” is included with your registration fee.  This includes 1 Composite Memory Mate (player and team photo in one picture), 1 Laminated Bag Tag and 4 Wallet photos. There are a multitude of options to add to this package.  Click HERE to see your options and to get a head start on filling out the order form on page 3 that everyone is required to turn in.  Pictures will be taken on the Big Field behind Torrey Pines Elementary School.

Opening Day Ceremonies: This could be the biggest opening day ceremony in LJYB history so make sure you and your baseball player are there to participate and witness all the action.  The ceremony will be held at the Bronco field with its newly remodeled stands complete with a spacious viewing deck at the top for those that like to stand and check out the ocean between innings.

The ceremony kicks off at 11:40 with a stunning performance by Kids CREW.  This will be followed by a special recognition of our “Decade on the Diamond” players who have played their entire youth baseball career here in our league starting at age 5 in Shetland and finishing at age 14 in Pony.  Next will be the ceremonial first pitch (a huge celebrity that lives in La Jolla no doubt) and then the GIANT league photo of all 365 players along with managers and coaches lining the Bronco infield.

Snack Bar Grand Opening: Opening Day will mark the grand opening of the newly renovated and vastly improved snack bar located behind third base of the Bronco field.  All of the past favorites including Slushees, sunflower seeds and Big League Chew gum will be available.  This year we are adding a ton of new items so be sure to stop by and take a look. The snack bar is running an opening day special - one hot dog, a bag of chips and a canned drink for only $2.50!

To help celebrate the grand opening of the snack bar (and to help with the overflow crowd) Kona Ice and Dang Brothers Pizza will be onsite with their famous food trucks to serve you their great food as well!

Help Out: Please bring any used baseball or softball gear including bats, gloves, catcher’s gear, helmets, cleats, or gently used baseball clothing (except jerseys) and drop them off at the Kids Gear for Baseball collections bins by the snack bar.

Please deposit empty aluminum cans and plastic bottles in the recycle bins located around the park area.  LJYB will recycle them.
