Improving the Welfare of La Jolla Youth Since 1952

My my My my
2019 La Jolla Youth Baseball Champions

Congratulations to the 2019 La Jolla Youth Baseball Champions!

Pinto Division: The SoCal Seats Brown Bear Blasters started out the season losing five of six games.  But then they turned it around and saved their best performance of the season for Championship Saturday. Winners of eight straight to close the year, the Blasters did just that, blasting their way to 23 runs in the finale against a stout opponent in Bad Boy. The boys celebrated their well-earned title with championship rings, Big League Chew & a team party on the Pinto field.

Mustang Division: After being blown out of the Winner’s Bracket by a record margin, Taco Stand fought their way back into the Championship. Knowing that it needed to play two games to win, pitch count became an integral part of its strategy and, after playing through the rain and a swarm of bees, they emerged victorious in a nail-biting first game 9-8. An hour later, the second game was played with Taco Stand clocking up 10 runs in the first 3 innings. Unfortunately for Capital Stewardship, who fought hard till the end, that was a bridge too far and they eventually went down 15-4.

Bronco Division:  Hagan Dentistry jumped out to an early 6-1 lead in the top of the third in the first matchup of the day, behind strong pitching from Sanchez and Ratner and RBIs from Morrow, Lockey and Rebiz. The team held on to win 11-5 propelling the boys into a championship match.

Another strong pitching performance from Sanchez over three innings registering seven Ks kept the bats and runs from Murfey in check to start the second game.  However Hagan Dentistry was only able to put 1 run on the board after stranding six.  Murfey then jumped out to their first lead of the day in the fourth, with 5 runs in the top half of the frame.  Hagan's countered though with 10 runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning with solid hitting throughout the lineup.  Murfey countered to even the score at 11 apiece in the fifth. Hagan's scored two more in the bottom of the fifth and that proved to be the deciding advantage. Emery Semmens closed out the game by striking out three in 2+ innings on the mound. The team celebrated in fine fashion with Martinelli's showers on the field amidst much cheer from the fans and families in attendance.
